A heart-warming story between a boy, his dad, Grandad and Great Grandad. Here goes…… Archie (Age 7) adored his Great Grandad Dennis and was truly devasted when he died on 27th August 2023, As a sentiment to his Great Grandads memory, Archie asked if he could write a message in a bottle and send it out to sea at Cresswell Beach, Northumberland.
Accompanied by his dad and Grandad Archie threw the bottle into the sea by all accounts a few times as the tide kept fetching it back but eventually off it went. Never expecting to hear of it again, imagine the surprise when we at Forget Me Not Funeral Service received an email with 2 photographs attached 8 weeks later from a lady in Germany explaining how she had found the bottle whilst on holiday in Henne Strand, Denmark the day after a big storm had hit and the bottle had been washed up on the beach some 600km away from home. She found our details by googling Dennis’s name to find we had placed an obituary notice in the local newspaper on behalf of his family.
We immediately rang Dennis’s family to let them know the good news and they were elated and in total disbelief that this little bottle made it all the way across the ocean and for the kindness shown by the lady who found it to track us down. Her very words were “Archie’s grandad would certainly be very proud and please send all our love to the Weedy Family”.
